Deftones: Beauty School – new video

‘Beauty School’, filmed by “13th Witness”, comes from DEFTONES' sixth album entitled ‘Diamond Eyes’, released back in May 2010 through Warner Bros./Reprise Records. The album had sold 62,000 copies during the week of its release in the U.S. alone, debuted at number 6 on Billboard 200 (American albums chart) and achieved top 20 charting in many European countries. The album features former QUICKSAND bassist Sergio Vega, substituting Chi Cheng who suffered severe injuries in a 2008 traffic accident. Album's commercial and critical success caused  Sputnik Music's Nick Greer to describe it as DEFTONES' best album to date:

“ ‘Diamond Eyes’ not only attains a yet higher peak for DEFTONES' dreamy, hopeful aesthetic, but ingeniously combines this aesthetic with the heaviness, inventiveness, and ambiance that made ‘White Pony’ such a profound record. [New album] is union of the two DEFTONES: the metallic, desperate, and sadistic and the melodic, yearning, and sensitive.”

Childhood friends Stephen Carpenter, Chino Moreno and Abe Cunningham formed DEFTONES in 1988 in California, USA. They recorded a four-track demo with bassist Chi Chang soon after the band's inception, followed by a debut album, ‘Adrenaline’, released in 1995 through Maverick Records:

“Simply put, this music is the product of a good old-fashioned band, with every element of the music fitting together nicely,” [commented Daniel Gioffre, AllMusic Guide]

The album was certified gold in 1999 (500,000 copies sold in the U.S.) and has gone platinum in 2008 (1,000,000 units sold). DEFTONES' second album, ‘Around The Fur’, was released in 1997 and was dedicated to Max Cavalera's (SEPULTURA/SOULFLY) late stepson Dana Wells. The album had sold 43,000 copies in its first week of release, and peaked at number 29 on the American albums chart Billboard 200. In 2000, the band released their third album, ‘White Pony’, as Frank Delgado a.k.a. “DJ Speedboat” (turntables/keyboards/sampler) became a full-time band member, adding new elements to DEFTONES' music. The album achieved platinum status in 2002 (1.3 million copies sold in USA) and secured the group a Grammy award for the song ‘Elite’.

“The band struggled with leading its direction, trudging through weighed emotion,” [wrote MacKenzie Wilson for AllMusic Guide] “but ‘White Pony’ was the tantalizing outcome. DEFTONES went soft, but in an impressive way, to twist around its signature punk thrash sound. Frontman Chino Moreno is still intense, and his sour vocals throughout the entire record growl and stomp all over mainstream movements. He is bored with it all.”

The group's self-titled album was released in 2003, followed by 2006's ‘Saturday Night Wrist’:

“Ultimately, ‘Saturday Night Wrist’ is satisfying, though it may take a few listens given all the changes in individual cuts that tend to blur together the first time or two through. To the faithful, DEFTONES once again offer up their own brand of blast and croon. As for everyone else, there’s plenty here to like, to argue with, and to be puzzled by.” [argued somewhat less successful release by this important band AllMusic's Thom Jurek]

The video for ‘Sextape’ was directed by Zak Forrest and Chad Liebenguth. ‘You’ve Seen The Butcher’ was directed by Jodeb. Both tunes are taken from the album ‘Diamond Eyes’.
