Finland's heavy metallers POISONBLACK have come up with new video for ‘Scars’, a tune taken from the group's latest release entitled ‘Drive’. Recorded at Antfarm Studio in Århus, Denmark with producer Tue Madsen, ‘Drive’ was released in Scandinavia and Japan in April 2011 and has just became available (September 23rd) in Germany, Switzerland and Austria via Finland's Hype Records. ‘Drive’ has entered the official Albums Chart in the group's home country at position number 3. Buy the album here (Record Shop X) or here (Hype Records) or via iTunes.
POISONBLACK was founded in 2000 by Ville Laihiala - who, at the time, was the lead vocalist of SENTENCED - as a side project in which he would trade microphone for guitar. The group's debut album, 2003's ‘Escapexstacy’, featured, beside Laihiala on guitar, vocalist Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto (CHARON), Marco Sneck on keyboards, Janne Kukkonen on bass and Tarmo Kanerva on drums. After the departure of CHARON's vocalist, Laihiala assumed vocal duties himself and has since stirred POISONBLACK out of the gothic metal waters which distinguished their first album. Second release on Century Media records, very successful 2006's ‘Lust Stained Despair’, reached number 2 on the Finnish Albums Chart:
“As for Laihiala, the fact that, technically speaking, he was never that great a singer to begin with (hear his dodgy pitch on the lower registers of ‘Love Controlled Despair’ and limited deadpan emoting neither the lust nor despair advertised) is made all the more evident by his obvious concentration on playing lead guitar here (note his rapid-fire solos in ‘Soul In Flames’ and ‘Never Enough’, among other tracks),” [was being quick-witted again Eduardo Rivadavia, AllMusic, in his review of the album]
2008's ‘A Dead Heavy Day’ charted at number 6 in Finland, achievement matched by POISONBLACK's last release on Century Media, 2010's Hiili Hiilesmaa-produced ‘Of Rust And Bones’.
POISONBLACK features: Ville Laihiala – vocals & guitar, Antti Remes – bass, Marco Sneck – keyboards and Tarmo Kanerva – drums
