AOL Music is currently streaming the new album by HULL, American sludge & progressive metal group, entitled ‘Beyond The Lightless Sky’ right here. The album was recorded with engineer and percussionist Brett Romnes (IATA) (“Within an enormous, darkened club, many nights fell into morning as the immense sound was captured for the album.”) and mixed by (“madman”) Billy Anderson. The album's release date is October 11th, 2011 on The End Records.

“Digging further into the past, the Mayan epic takes the listener through a division of two brothers and the struggles that they are faced with. One finds salvation amongst the stars and the wisdom of a stranger, while the other is mesmerized with the bloodthirsty belief of sacrifice and self mutilation. In silence lies a realm that exists outside the plane of fear,” [explains the meaning of the words that accompany the music the press release – read the entire HULL “saga” starting with the 2007's ‘Viking Funeral’ here (HULL official)]

“The deafening clap of thunder that is HULL” come from Brooklyn, New York. The “massive entity storming stages and immersing their audiences in a blanket of grandiose down-tuned compositions” first mesmerized the listening public with their 2007-released EP entitled ‘Viking Funeral’ - composed of a single, 17-minute song in two parts, exhibiting a wide range of styles ranging from doom, to sludge to post-hardcore. HULL continued to “command their listeners through each riff with incredible precision, as a seafarer guides vessels through ominous waters” with their debut full-length, ‘Sole Lord’, released in 2009 via The End Records:

“After all of the seismic, slothful riffing, frenzied hardcore outbursts, throaty vocal roars, and gentle atmospheric backdrops are wheeled out for all to appraise (see ‘Transition’, ‘Healer’, ‘Architect’ etc.), HULL are left with just a handful of unquestionably memorable tricks within their arsenal that help to lift this release slightly above the national average. … Chances are, there will be dozens more special moments, besides, depending on the genre experience of any given listener, which is really the key takeaway here: anyone intimately familiar with all that came before in the post-metal multi-verse will realize there’s only so much praise to be heaped on a genre exercise, no matter how good and well executed it is by the members of HULL; but first-time travelers might understandably think ‘Sole Lord’ is a revelatory, one-of-a-kind, and positively religious musical experience,” [examined the subject and the genre Eduardo Rivadavia, AllMusic Guide – more here]

HULL features the following Reverends: A. Mack, J. Stieber, C. Laietta V, N. Palmirotto, and Rev. S.B. Dunn
