Origin: Entity – new album

Origin_Entity

“Ridiculously technical, fast, and punishing” death & grind metal trio comprised of Mike Flores (bass and vocals), Paul Ryan (guitar and vocals) and John Longstreth (drums), continues to churn out frantic, hell-paced grids of metal torment; ORIGIN's new album, ‘Entity’, was released in Europe today, June 10th, 2011 (June 7th, 2011 in North America) via Nuclear Blast Records. The album was recorded at Chapman Recording Studios in Lenexa, Kansas with engineer, and longtime friend, Robert Rebeck. ‘Entity’ artwork was created by Colin Marks. Nuclear Blast has made it possible for us to preview – or pre-listen – the album via player available below, where you’ll also find ORIGIN's brand new tracks, ‘Expulsion Of Fury’ and ‘Saligia’.

ORIGIN was founded by guitarists Paul Ryan and Jeremy Turner in Topeka, Kansas in 1997. The duo enlisted bassist Clint Appelhanz, vocalist Mark Manning, and drummer George Fluke to fill out the first ORIGIN lineup, which went on to record a self-financed demo, ‘A Coming Into Existence’, the following year. In 1999, group's rhythm section was replaced with bassist Doug Williams (ex-CEPHALIC CARNAGE) and drummer John Longstreth (ex-ANGEL CORPSE). As such, the band managed to secure a record deal with Relapse Records and went on to record debut self-titled album released in 2000. ORIGIN toured extensively with the likes of VADER and DYING FETUS following the release. Vocalist James Lee stepped in to replace Manning and bassist Mike Flores moved in instead of  Williams, before ‘Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas’ came out in 2002: “ORIGIN's specialty is the kind of inhumanly technical, high-speed death metal that causes listeners to sit back and say, “Wow, how on earth do they play that stuff?” There are few parts of this CD where the drums (which are heavily triggered and almost electronic sounding) are not going at full speed - either with some kind of blastbeat or double-bass drum part - and about half the time, they’re doing so in some difficult, uneven time signature. Meanwhile, the two guitars are also playing complicated parts, interweaving and harmonizing with one another rather than merely playing the same riffs or splitting up into lead versus rhythm roles,” expressed his amazement AllMusic's William York. The tour in support of the album caused Jeremy Turner to leave the band with Clint Appelhanz taking over guitar duties; drummer John Longstreth resigned shortly after to be replaced by James King. 26 and a half minutes-long third album, ‘Echoes Of Decimation’, was released in 2005 and turbulent tours that laboriously  came next, this time claimed James King and Clint Appelhanz. Drummer John Longstreth returned to ORIGIN in 2006 and guitarist Jeremy Turner answered the call in 2007; ‘Antithesis’, group's last records for Relapse (2008), was described by AllMusic's Greg Prato as “death metal at its most complex and challenging”. The album peaked at number 21 on the American Billboard Top Heatseekers music chart (for new and developing musical recording artists).
